Aston Martin Lagonda Limited is a British manufacturer of luxury performance. Aston Martin first came into existence in 1908, when Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin fitted a four cylinder, side valve, 1398cc Coventry-Simplex engine to a Isotta-Fraschini racing chassis. The first Aston Martin production car had to wait until 1919 and was not on sale until 1921.

From 1994 until 2007 Aston Martin was part of the Premier Automotive Group, a division of the Ford Motor Company. Ford invested in new manufacturing and quickly ramped up production. In 2007 it was purchased by Dave Richards, CEO of UK-based automotive company, Prodrive. Ford retained a stake in Aston Martin. Many of the James Bond films feature an Aston Martin as Bond's car.

The company name is derived from the name of one of the company's founders, Lionel Martin and from the Aston Hill speed hillclimb. There have been a number of Aston Martin logos since the company started up. The two wings in today’s logo are signifying the speed.
